Section 297
Don't open letters or listen on the telephone
(1) Without the permission of the authorized officer or the concerned person, one should not open someone's letter or listen to what someone else is doing on the telephone using any mechanical device or record the sound.
(2) A person who commits or causes an offense under sub-section (1) shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with a fine which may extend to twenty thousand rupees.
